I had read somewhere on the internet that some audio fanatics were using CAT5 as a DIY speaker wire. After I bought a little tube amp, I started looking into making these speaker wires more closely.
They weren’t difficult to make, just a very long tedious process. It involved cutting up a long CAT5 cable, removing all of the twisted pairs and then braiding them multiple times to form one big braided speaker pair. And then the real trick is that you have to then separate the gazillion pairs and terminate the cables. The result looks good and works fine. Was it worth it? No idea.
